The Great Ups and Many Downs of Suzanna Gonzo's First Show

I have been working on a show since Spring this year whilst finishing theatre school in France and returning to the UK to get ready for the festival & fringe season.
It has been a tough road with a lot of lessons to be learned, one being no matter how prepared you try to be you are never quiet prepared to perform to 2 people in a massive space.

Finding audience is one of the major tasks as a fringe performer and finding a suited audience is a gift! I arrived in Edinburgh with very little arranged and ended up with an hour slot at the Free Fringe's Voodoo rooms. The audiences were very receptive and encouraging but I still felt the show had a long way to go before my big finale at the Camden Fringe. So far my big finale at the Camden fringe as felt like a painful death of an unknown one in a trillion billion beetle (actor).

Writing, editing, self-directing, producing, selling and travelling to perform my one woman show has left me feeling like all the colours on an artist's palate. This week alone I have felt like brown, grey and black. My partner said to me during these dark shades that I just need to,
'Pick myself up, dust myself off and walk into a wall' as an aspiring clown this was the perfect advice. I got back on the rocky horse.

But I faced another challenge last night when I had to pull a show for the first time, it felt like I was 7 and no one came to my birthday party. Even though when I was 7 I was only allowed to invite 2 friends. I think my mum misunderstood how to host a children's party. I got really good at Snap.

Everything can change in the world of entertainment at the flick of a par can and this morning I woke up to a tremendously encouraging review that has left me feeling like a big shinny dollop of orange! In a good way.

This weeks lesson for me is to remember why I do what I do and to keep going whether people loath me or love me! Its my party and I can dance, sing, clap and flop if I want to!
